Who we ARe

Millstadt, Illinois is a town located in Southwestern Illinois approximately 16 miles from St. Louis, Missouri. Our service covers a large diverse region that covers 107 square miles of both rural and urban households and businesses. We are truly a unique ambulance service as we provide advanced life support in Millstadt Township, as well as the unincorporated portions of Belleville, Hecker, Columbia, Waterloo, Smithton, and Dupo, Illinois. We also provide mutual aid to neighboring departments such as Waterloo, Hecker, Smithton, Belleville, Columbia, and Dupo, Illinois. The Millstadt Ambulance Service was founded in 1980 by a grassroots group of individuals who walked door to door petitioning for EMS to be provided to their town. We were created and continued as a basic life support service for over thirty years. In 2013, our members and board of directors unanimously voted to become an advanced life support service. In 2018, we purchased a building located at 100 East Laurel Street, Millstadt, Illinois 62260. Our future goals include upgrading outdated equipment, providing a higher level of care, and providing equipment that will allow residents, employees, and neighboring districts to further their education. We serve a very exciting and diverse area that includes rural airports, large family friendly apple orchards, 2 paintball parks, 2 elementary schools, 1 primary center, a golf course, 1 assisted living center, industrial factories, and a large abundance of small businesses and residences. We respond to a large variety of emergencies from urban violence to wilderness emergencies. In 2018, Millstadt Ambulance District population has grown from approximately 6,000 to 7,282 since 2010. This makes for a population density of 68%. This shows an estimate of a 21.3 percent increase in population since 2010. This increase has resulted in approximately an 8 percent call volume increase with each new year. The racial make-up of Millstadt, Illinois are: White (Non-Hispanic) (96.3%), White (Hispanic) (3.12%), and Black or African American (Non-Hispanic) (0.562%). In the village, the population is spread out with 23.7% of residents being under the age of 18. 7.6% from 18 - 24, 28.6% from 25 - 44, 22.9% from 45 - 64. and 17.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age of Millstadt is 39 years of age. For every 100 females within Millstadt's district, there are 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.5 males. The median income for a household in the village according to the 2010 census was $47,824.00, and the median income for a family was $56,738. Males had a median income of $40,893.00 versus $27,914 for females. Approximately 3.2% of families and 4.0% of the population are below the poverty line. Millstadt Ambulance Service defines the population of its district as the families that live within the district, their friends, and all citizens that travel through the district. We staff approximately 20 - 30 employees that are permitted to respond from their residences so long as they live within a certain radius of the EMS base. We are able to staff drivers, EMTS, Paramedics, Critical Care Paramedics, and Pre Hospital Registered Nurses. We have one paramedic unit with a call sign of 3926 and a BLS unit with a call sign of 3925, this unit is upgradable to ALS in times of specific need.Â
